Several years ago I took a technical writing class taught by Jean-luc Doumont, which I think about often. Before the class started I didn't take it very seriously and in fact missed the first day because of a vacation. But I came away highly impressed. Unfortunately in a corporate environment one rarely has the chance to actually apply his lessons, at least for written materials. After all, who even fully reads a long document in a corporate job any more ? And even attempting to apply the lessons when making a presentation, one is eventually forced to concede to house style when making slides, which sit half-way between presentation and written document and satisfy neither's aims.
